It’s the 80s again! Visiting the Lévy Gorvy Dayan gallery

November 5, 2025

In NYC last week, Elizabeth and I discovered a gem of a gallery: Lévy Gorvy Dayan on E 64th Street. They were hosting a brilliant contemporary exhibit, “Uptown/Downtown: New York in the Eighties” featuring works by the heavy hitters of that era including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clement, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, Barbara Kruger, Robert Mapplethorpe, Kenny Scharf, Sally Mann, and many others. The show was curated by the venerable Mary Boone, who played a crucial and indispensable role promoting contemporary artwork as a gallery owner in the 80s.

The show continues through December 13. Those who appreciate this dynamic period of artistic ferment in New York will love this relatively small show. You can view it in its entirety in probably 30–40 minutes.
