Making music for friends — a remembrance

May 31, 2025

I was cleaning out some digital files and found this video Elizabeth and I made for our dear friends Rob and Sue Bourdaudhui during covid in 2020. We frequently socialized together and thought this might be a fun musical diversion for them during the lockdown.

Covid aside, it was an awful time. Sue had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and we were all very concerned about her health. Sadly, she passed away that fall.

Rewatching the video this week, I had better perspective on the fun we had playing those songs: an aimless Friday night; random tunes; low-res iPhone video and audio; no reverb on the vocals; one guitar and two voices; live takes, no edits. There are a couple of flubs and flat notes here and there, but overall I like it. Especially Elizabeth’s singing. I hope you like it, too.
